Victoria County extends airport flight-promotion program through Aug. 30, broadens eligibility

Victoria County Commissioners Court on an unspecified May meeting approved extending a flight-promotion program for Victoria Regional Airport through Aug. 30 and agreed to widen the geographic reach and eligible participants. Judge John (County Judge) moved to extend the program; the motion was seconded and the court approved the extension.

The move extends a promotion originally set to end June 30 and uses a finite $40,000 fund on a first-come, first-served basis. Lenny (airport staff) told the court the program has reimbursed travel for county and partner employees and their spouses, with about $11,784.21 paid in tiered reimbursements for 82 employee-related tickets in the most recent accounting, and that April passenger counts were rising after weather disruptions earlier in the year.

Court members agreed to include adjacent counties—Refugio, Lavaca, Jackson, Goliad and DeWitt—in outreach and to coordinate distribution with county judges and human resources offices. Commissioners also discussed including workers who are paid through the county but not classified as county employees (for example, probation staff); the court directed staff to develop verification procedures so such workers can receive the reimbursement. The promotion remains first come, first served: once the $40,000 is spent, no more reimbursements will be available.

Lauren (county staff) and Lenny were asked to coordinate outreach materials, including flyers and emails, to adjacent counties. No vote record of individual names was recorded other than the court saying “Aye” and approving the motion.
