The Commissioners Court approved a plan to develop renovation plans for the 311 East Constitution Building that would relocate the auditor, treasurer and elections offices and convert cafeteria space to a large meeting and training room.
John, county staff, said the concept would place the elections administration, treasurer and auditor offices into renovated space at the 311 building and free up current courthouse space for other county uses. "The action that I'm moving forward with the court's approval would be, renovate develop plans and, renovate the space for the elections office administration to move over into a portion of the building as well as the, treasurer's office and the Auditor's Office and the, improvements to the cafeteria area for a large meeting space, packaged into to 1 particular project," John told the court.
Commissioners approved authorization for staff to engage Raleigh McCoy & Associates (RMA) to develop construction plans and to return with bid documents and cost estimates. The court stressed this authorization is to proceed with planning and bidding; it did not appropriate construction funding or set a timeline for moving offices. When bids are returned, the court will decide whether to award construction contracts and how to phase moves.
The renovations also include restroom upgrades and potential smaller finish‑outs that could be completed separately if the court chooses. Commissioners said moving these high‑traffic offices is a long‑standing goal and that completing the 311 project would allow the county to repurpose existing courthouse space for other functions.
