Victoria County launches free six-week 'Victoria County 360' civic education program

County staff unveiled Victoria County 360, a six-week civic education program for residents that will run Tuesdays from Sept. 30 through Nov. 4 and is free to participants. The county opened registration immediately and plans to cap the first class at 25 attendees.
Lauren, a county staff member leading the effort, told the commissioners, “This 6 week program is a free program to our residents who want to learn more about the county, engage with their elected officials, learn about the different departments that we have here at the county.” She said the program will include optional tours of the courthouse, airport, animal services (when the new building is complete), and classes to be held at the Heritage Building.
The program organizers said they have received about a dozen applications since the registration launched and will send an itemized agenda to accepted applicants. Commissioners noted that similar programs exist in other counties and praised the county for investing in resident education and engagement.
At the same meeting, the court approved the creation of a VC360 program line item and a $5,000 budget allocation for it, along with a separate $2,000 community engagement line item to support outreach and materials. The application deadline for the first cohort was announced as July 30.
The program is being positioned as both informational and relationship-building: staff said they hope graduates will form an alumni group to help communicate county work back to the community. The court did not discuss program staffing changes beyond using existing county employees who helped develop the curriculum and promotional materials.
Applications are available at the county website, vctx.org, and organizers asked interested residents to submit applications before the July 30 deadline.
