Mark, an animal services staff member, updated the commissioners on a PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week event that produced 47 adoptions of dogs and cats and said the PetSmart store recorded 64 adoptions across rescue groups during the event. Mark said grant funding allowed staff to pre-spay and neuter animals so the adoptions could be provided at no charge.
Later in the meeting the court received for the record an ASPCA grant agreement (G-202506-33487) for $40,000, described by staff as a “rescue effect” grant. Staff said the grant allows flexible use including spay/neuter costs, event expenses and advertising to reduce shelter length of stay. Mark said the county’s average length of stay for dogs is about 16 days and the grant’s objective is to shorten that time.
Commissioners praised staff for actively pursuing grant funding and for community partnerships. The court voted to receive the fully executed ASPCA grant agreement; staff said the grant will be used to support free adoption events and related activities intended to move animals through the shelter more quickly.
The court took the receiving action; no budget amendment was requested at this meeting.
