Court approves Travis County participation in LBJ School government finance fellowship and hosts two interns

Travis County Commissioners Court voted unanimously on May 13 to approve an agreement enabling the county to participate in the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs Center on Municipal Capital Markets’ government finance rotational fellowship program.
Travis Gatlin of the Planning and Budget Office introduced the presentation and Marty Luby, director of the LBJ School’s Center on Municipal Capital Markets, described the program as having two goals: (1) contribute to infrastructure finance policy discussions at federal, state and local levels; and (2) train a workforce for municipal finance through experiential rotations. Luby said the fellowship will place LBJ graduate students with budgeting and finance organizations for rotational assignments.
Planning and Budget staff introduced two interns placed with Travis County as part of the program: Annie Burke (first‑year LBJ fellow, background in anthropology and work with TreeFolks) and RJ Gonzalez (first‑year LBJ fellow, background in political science and transportation/tax policy experience). Alex Braden of the Planning and Budget Office noted both interns had already started and would be engaged in budget and capital‑project work over the summer.
Action: a motion to approve Travis County’s participation and related agreements passed unanimously. The court welcomed the interns and requested staff engage with them in tours and department meetings while they work on county projects this summer.
