Travis County Transportation and Natural Resources (TNR) on Aug. 12 introduced a cohort of summer interns and their mentors during early public comment, describing work done in engineering review, pavement research and park project design.
"They've been working with us this summer in the various engineering worlds and some with our planning partners," Anna Boland of Travis County TNR told the court, introducing interns Ariali Flores, Jenny Gonzalez Furman, Caden Armenta and Alexandra Hume and listing mentors who supported the program.
Nut graf: TNR staff said the summer program ran nine weeks, mentors provided hands-on experience, and the department plans to expand internships in the spring with improved mentor training and outreach to hire locally for county positions.
Student work and staff comments
- Internship assignments: Mentors described that interns worked in engineering review, park project design, pavement and soil stabilization research, and permit exemption organization. "Yareli worked with me and she helped with doing engineering review," one mentor said. Another noted an intern assisted with pavement-group soil stabilization research.
- Program development: TNR said the department and HR will further support mentors and expand the program in spring. Judge Brown encouraged interns to consider working for Travis County in the future.
Ending: The court recognized mentors and interns and encouraged broad outreach for future sessions; no formal action was required.
