Travis County commissioners on Aug. 19 reappointed two members to the Strategic Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) board and opened recruitment to fill a vacant seat, per an immediate action requested by county staff.
Why it matters: SHFC plays a role in financing and overseeing affordable-housing transactions in Travis County; county staff said the board has requested expertise in financial structuring to evaluate development financing options.
Julie Wheeler, Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) staff, told the court that two seats on the SHFC board — occupied by Keisha Prince and Jan Wenig — are expiring at year‑end and both incumbents asked to be reappointed and are eligible under the board’s rules. A third seat, held by Dalia Becker, is vacant. Wheeler said SHFC requested applicants with financial experience to help the board evaluate financing structures and recommended issuing a public call that will run through Oct. 19 so the court can fill the vacancy before year‑end.
Commissioner Howard moved to reappoint Prince and Wenig and to open the call for the vacant seat; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Julie and other court members praised the board and noted that one reappointment is a tenant representative, bringing lived experience to the board’s deliberations.
Ending: staff will issue the open call for applications and return to the court with a list of qualified candidates for consideration before the end of the year.
