Travis County commissioners on Aug. 19 set the schedule and submission deadlines for the fiscal‑year 2026 budget markup process, approving a deadline for department submissions and confirming the court will begin budget markups the week after Labor Day.
Why it matters: the dates establish the timetable for departmental final proposals and the court’s public deliberations on FY 2026 spending and tax‑rate considerations.
County budget staff told the court final budget hearings have concluded and that the Planning and Budget Office (PBO) will begin consolidating submissions. The court agreed to a deadline of Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) for departments to submit their budget agenda worksheets to both PBO and the judge’s office; staff said materials will be posted publicly to the county agenda site promptly after receipt. The court also agreed to start budget markup at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Budget sessions are expected to run 9 a.m.–noon and 1–5 p.m., at the court’s discretion, and the judge’s office said the consolidated backup would be provided to commissioners ahead of the markup session.
Commissioners noted quorum and voting requirements for tax‑rate adoption and said they expect to hold markups with at least three members present. County staff said the consolidated backup would be prepared and emailed to commissioners after the Aug. 27 submission deadline and that the PBO and budget director will support workload while the PBO lead is out for personal leave on Aug. 28–29.
Ending: the court voted to adopt the Aug. 27 noon submission deadline and the Sept. 3 start for budget markup; staff will publish the worksheets and supply consolidated backup for the Sept. 3 session.
