Commissioners approve MOUs and grant resolutions for volunteer fire departments and social-service partners

Taylor County Commissioners Court on Aug. 26 approved multiple memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with all volunteer fire departments and with outside agencies providing social services, and approved Texans Feeding Texans grant resolutions for Meals on Wheels Plus Inc. and the Taylor County Rural Nutrition program.

County staff said the MOUs set responsibilities for recipients of county-disbursements and that the agreements had been signed by the volunteer fire departments and outside agencies; the court authorized the judge to sign on the county’s behalf. The court voted 5-0 to approve the MOUs with the volunteer fire departments and to authorize the judge to sign them.

The court also approved grant-resolution documents required by the Texas Department of Agriculture so Meals on Wheels Plus Inc. and the rural nutrition program can apply for Texans Feeding Texans grants for FY2026; the judge was authorized to sign those resolutions.

Separately, the court approved an interlocal agreement with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to fund a project coordinator (Rainbow Room coordinator) in the local office to assist with placements of children; the agreement amount presented for county share was $79,008.72 for the position this year. The interlocal agreement had been funded previously and the county voted 5-0 to continue it with the judge authorized to sign.

County officials also approved renewal of a Title IV-related contract with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services that county staff said brings in roughly $300,000 per year to offset certain court-appointed attorney and child-defense costs.

All motions carried unanimously; county staff were authorized to execute the signed agreements and grants and to proceed with required reporting.
