Commissioners approve insurer renewal, employee and retiree contribution adjustments for plan year 2026

Taylor County Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved the insurance committee’s recommendations for plan‑year 2026 insurance benefits, including renewal of medical coverage through the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) pool and changes to contribution rates for employees and retirees.
Sophie Selkie, presenting for the county insurance committee, said the committee recommended renewing medical benefits with TAC while excluding CVS pharmacy but including combined endoscopy/colonoscopy coverage at 100 percent for procedures performed together. The committee recommended continuing hospital indemnity and flexible spending accounts through current administrators and allowing the county’s benefits administrator (Ainco) to determine ancillary benefits such as dental and vision.
The committee proposed increasing county funding for medical coverage and increasing retiree/employee contribution rates for other benefits by 7 percent. Selkie said the market average increase is higher (around 10–12 percent), and the committee’s approach keeps county‑paid plan costs more stable for employees. The TAC representative present noted that the county’s fixed administrative and stop‑loss costs have been held flat for multiple years.
Commissioners adopted both the insurance committee recommendations and the TAC medical renewal by separate motions; both motions passed 4-0. The court recorded no changes to benefit carriers beyond the renewals and asked staff to proceed with plan administration steps for plan year 2026.
