The Callahan County Facilities Committee told the commissioners on Aug. 11 that much of the courthouse restoration work is nearing completion.
Committee member Garrett reported that “the lower level floors have been sealed along with the emergency stairs and the IT room on the Fourth Floor,” and that exterior building lighting and landscaping efforts are nearly finished. “All the shrubs are now planted, and it's been mulched,” Garrett said.
Van Enter (vendor) is scheduled to assess the courthouse vault doors the following Wednesday, and bar alarm work was described as in progress and expected to be completed soon.
Why it matters: The update signals nearing readiness of the restored courthouse for regular use and ties to other agenda items (furniture procurement and lamp-post power connections in front of the jail).
Commissioners asked whether the lamp-posts had been tested at night; Garrett said they had not yet been turned on but would try to have a status for the next meeting. Staff also reported that lamp-post power had been tied in for the last two lamp posts in front of the jail.
Ending: The committee’s brief update contained no vote; staff will provide further status in future meetings, including lamp-post testing and vault-door assessment results.
