An extension office representative, introduced as Carl, briefed Callahan County Commissioners Court on May and June programming for agriculture and 4‑H on June 23.
Carl said Callahan County participated in a regional beef production and bull-selection program in Sweetwater and reported small local attendance at several events. He described an online “new world scribe worm” briefing that drew 25 participants (4 in person and 21 virtual). He said he will share additional information about that pest as it becomes available.
On youth programming, Carl reported 4‑H participation at the state roundup: eight youth competed in multiple contests. Jed Thompson, a graduating senior, earned a $10,000 scholarship; other youth placed in competitions including archery, horse judging, mohair and wildlife contests. Carl noted that some top youth are graduating this year but that he expects new participants to follow.
Carl also said upcoming local programming could include a field day on hay breakers and that several extension plots near Eula are growing well. He closed by noting leadership lab duties and a busy summer schedule of camps.
