Callahan County Commissioners Court voted July 28 to participate in the ongoing opioid settlement and to accept the county’s share of funds under the settlement terms.
A commissioner noted the settlement is “very similar to those tobacco settlements” and observed that proposed regulations may limit approved spending categories; the court recorded no further restrictions and agreed to participate so the county can access its allotted funds. Commissioner Farmer moved to participate, Commissioner Windham seconded and the motion passed with all present voting in favor.
No allocation decisions were made at the meeting; commissioners said they wanted the county to have the opportunity to receive funds and then decide on eligible uses after regulatory guidance and more information are available.
