Sheriff reports 15 inmates countywide; deputies logging significant overtime

The Callahan County sheriff told Commissioners Court Tuesday that the county was housing inmates at multiple facilities and that deputies and dispatchers had logged significant overtime amid staffing gaps.
“Currently, we're housing a total of 15 inmates, 5 males, 2 females in Callahan County, 3 males in Coleman. Taylor County has 4 males and 1 female for a total of 15,” the sheriff said.
The sheriff reported 6.75 hours of overtime for dispatch and 67.5 hours for deputies. He said the department is short one jail deputy and one dispatcher, and noted other staff absences for medical leave and personal reasons. He also said a school resource officer assignment is expected to ease staffing pressure.
The court moved to accept the sheriff’s report. Commissioner Farmer moved to accept; Commissioner Clark seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote with all present voting in favor.
No additional action or staffing authorizations were taken during the meeting; the report was entered into the record.
