Commissioners update annex retrofit, approve disposal of donated cubicle panels

Callahan County Commissioners Court — Commissioners on June 9 heard a facilities update on the courthouse annex and approved disposal of donated modular furniture that staff judged unusable.
Garrett, reporting for the facilities committee, said contractors are programming lighting and temperature controls, Southwest Mechanical is scheduled to bring the geothermal pump online, and a furniture delivery is expected June 25 and will be stored in the annex. He said, “It it is all gutted out ... There are some roof leaks, but they tend to be on the west side of the building. So what we're gonna do is clear out the east side of it and, store it all in there.”
On donated furniture, Garrett reported about 50 to 60 cubicle panels, five or six file cabinets and other storage pieces are currently in the annex and described them as not fit for long-term county use. The court voted to have JC Stoddard remove the donated items using a roll-off container so annex space can be used for new furniture.
Commissioner Clark moved to have JC Stoddard handle disposal of the salvaged furniture; Commissioner Farmer seconded. The motion passed with all members present voting in favor and no oppositions recorded.
Other construction details recorded during the update included drywall completion to lower levels, significant carpeting installation, re-sanding and finishing of the district courtroom floor, scheduled furniture deliveries (two truckloads on June 25), and planned controller programming for the geothermal system later in the week.
No formal contract awards or additional funding approvals were recorded during the facilities update; contractors named in the update included Myra Maddox (building management assistant contractor), Southwest Mechanical, and the removal firm JC Stoddard.
