Sheriff’s office reports staffing shortages, overtime and 14‑inmate jail population

The Callahan County Sheriff’s Office reported May 12 that it remained short one dispatcher and one deputy, and that overtime hours continued while staffing gaps persist.
A sheriff’s office representative told the commissioners dispatch recorded 13.5 hours of overtime and the deputy side recorded 16.75 hours of overtime for the reporting period. The representative also gave a snapshot of the jail population: 14 inmates total, described as four males and one female in the county jail, two males and one female in Collin County, and five males and one female in Taylor County.
Following the report, a commissioner moved and the court accepted the sheriff’s report by voice vote.
