Council holds public hearing; proposes to keep tax rate at 53.3¢ per $100

“We have a proposed tax rate of 53.3¢ per $100 in property value. This is the exact same rate that we had last year,” the mayor said during the hearing.
Council members said there was no change to the property tax rate at the meeting and announced that the formal adoption vote for the tax rate will take place at the City Council meeting on Sept. 23 at 6 p.m., the second meeting in September. The hearing was opened to the public and no speakers requested time; the council then closed the public hearing and scheduled the adoption meeting.
No formal change to the proposed rate was made at the hearing; the council framed the session as an opportunity for public input prior to the adoption vote.
