Georgetown — Town Manager Gene DeBorde updated the Georgetown Town Council on Sept. 8 about several capital projects and recent legislative actions affecting municipalities.
DeBorde said work at the Sussex County Family Court continues with punch‑list items; electrical, plumbing and fire-marshal inspections are scheduled and the town’s certificate-of-occupancy inspection is set for Oct. 2, with officials still targeting an October 2025 opening. Paving for the private judges’ access and repaving on South Ray Street and East/West Pine Street are complete, and the fence along East Market Street has been removed, restoring the brick sidewalk in front of the building.
Pump-station rehabilitation is underway: the Meadows and Three Bells stations are complete and work continues at other stations including the Parsons Lane trailhead and the health-unit area behind the Adams State Service Center. The town issued an invitation to bid for the Parsons Lane Trailhead and Parking Area; a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting is set for Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. at Town Hall and bids are due Oct. 1 at 11 a.m.
DeBorde summarized DelDOT’s Fisher Road to Airport Road project schedule: construction is shown to start Oct. 2025 and run through April–June 2026. The salt barn at Public Works has had walls and floors poured and will next move to framing above the slab.
On administrative and calendar items: the new Police Accountability Committee will meet Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.; the planning commission meets Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. On recent legislation, DeBorde said Gov. [name not provided] is expected to sign a House substitute for House Bill 48 addressing accessible parking space sizing and inspections and House Bill 67 addressing removal and towing of motor vehicles; he also noted Senate Bill 75 — a bill on local control of retail marijuana stores — was vetoed and that the administration has discussed sharing some state cannabis tax revenues with municipalities that allow retail stores.
No formal council action was taken on the reports beyond accepting the updates and noting upcoming meetings and bid timelines.
