Council approves purchase and outfitting of three police SUVs totaling about $244,872

The Wasilla City Council approved two action memoranda on Aug. 25 to purchase and outfit three police‑package Chevrolet Tahoes. AM 2547 authorized a contract award to Switgard Alaska 2 LLC for $170,160 to purchase three police‑package Chevrolet Tahoes and AM 2548 authorized a contract award to Alaska Safety for $74,712 to supply and install equipment, for a combined maximum of $244,872.
Councilmember Graham moved the approvals and said the purchases align with the recently adopted budget and reflect a return to more predictable procurement following COVID‑era shortages when vehicles had to be bought off the lot. Councilmembers commended the chief and finance staff for bringing the vehicle purchases forward within budget. No objections were recorded and both awards were approved.
Staff said the purchases were planned in the current fiscal proposal and that using state pricing and established procurement routes allowed the city to stay within budgeted amounts. The contracts will be executed per the normal procurement and purchasing policies.
