City moves several businesses toward court after continued nonpayment, issues second notices

City staff told the meeting they have continued collection efforts and have issued citations and second notices to several businesses with unpaid fees. Staff said they issued citations since the last meeting to Kohana, Crab Kings, Volstead Proper, Colt Harmon and Steve Bonatti, and that return receipts confirmed delivery for at least one addressee. Staff reported a court date of Sept. 22 for unresolved cases. Staff said some businesses claimed to have paid beverage taxes to the state and not to the city, and that one operator had not paid any beverage-tax receipts since opening. Staff said one operator agreed he must pay to resolve the matter and avoid court. The record shows staff will proceed with second notices for R and M and Arkansas Breakfast Club and continue to pursue certified mail and citations for unresolved accounts. The board approved a motion to place identified accounts on the delinquent list under the standard fee schedule. How this matters: placing an account on the delinquent list can trigger additional administrative fees, citations, and a court appearance. Staff said court action is scheduled in September for the cases reported.
