Council to meet with Drainage District No. 2 on Aug. 12 as stormwater funding discussed

City staff said the city will meet with Drainage District Number 2 at the district’s annual meeting on Aug. 12 to discuss options for improving a drainage ditch that spans two districts. Mr. Rasmussen said the drainage ditch is divided between Drainage District Number 1 and Drainage District Number 2, and that the district officials have “very, very little money.” He said the city’s stormwater fund currently holds about $2,200,000 and that the city could consider contributing stormwater funds to improve the ditch. Council members agreed to send the mayor, the stormwater committee and interested staff to the Aug. 12 district meeting and asked staff to prepare estimates for possible repairs. Staff cautioned ditch repair costs could be significant and suggested phased work might be appropriate.
