Kennett to seek sealed bids for inoperable fire department pickup

The Kennett Fire Department will accept sealed bids for a nonoperational pickup truck, the fire chief told the City Council, with bids due at City Hall by 5 p.m. on Sept. 29. The city will open bids in accordance with city policy and present the highest responsible bid for council consideration.
"We will be moving forward with the process of seeking sealed bids for one of our vehicles, which is a 02/2005, Ford f 5 50 pickup," the fire chief said. The chief said the vehicle has been nonoperational for the past six months and is no longer suitable for service. To provide transparency and fairness, bids must be submitted in a sealed envelope to City Hall by the stated deadline; late bids will not be considered.
Staff said once the bid deadline passes all submitted bids will be reviewed and opened according to city policy and the highest responsible bid will be presented for consideration. City staff also told the council the sale process helps the city recover some value from equipment no longer in service. Council was told the sale will be approved at the Oct. 7 meeting under the normal schedule; staff said they were not in a rush but needed to move forward with the process.
The council did not take a separate formal vote on the sale during the discussion; the matter was presented as a procedural step the fire department will take with city-administration approval.
