The Excelsior Springs City Council on Aug. 18 approved Resolution No. 1596 declaring board and commission vacancies that exist now or will occur through September 2025 and inviting interested residents to apply. City staff explained that approximately 25 seats have terms that expire in September; most incumbents are eligible for reappointment but a few are not. Applicants' materials will be kept on file for one year so the city can fill vacancies that arise between appointment cycles. City staff encouraged volunteers to apply via the city's website and recommended attending the Citizens Leadership Academy to learn about municipal roles. The resolution was approved on a roll-call vote with Councilman Speer, Councilman McGovern, Mayor Pro Tem Saint John and Mayor Spahn voting yes. The resolution formalizes deadlines and publicity for board appointments and is intended to increase volunteer participation in city boards and commissions.
