The Excelsior Springs City Council on Aug. 18 approved Resolution No. 1599 authorizing repair of a fence on Highway 10 (the VFW fence) with an estimate of $24,057.60 from the original fabricator. Public Works Director Chad Birdsong reported the fence had been damaged in a vehicle crash and the manufacturer provided the repair and labor estimate of $24,057.60. Birdsong said the city is working with the driver's insurance for reimbursement but the amount recoverable is uncertain because of the insurer's limits. Members discussed retaining panels that are not fully broken; the idea is to unbolt slightly bent panels that may be straightened and reused on other projects. The Transportation Trust Authority approved allocation of the funds on Aug. 11, according to staff. Council moved and approved Resolution No. 1599 by roll call; all members present voted yes. The resolution authorizes contracting with the fabricator identified in the estimate for repair work and directs staff to pursue reimbursement from the responsible driver's insurance.
