Summary
Godly Love Adult Day Center applied to open a 5,200-square-foot adult day-care center at 10937 St. Charles Rock Road. The planning commission recommended approval 12-0; the applicant said the center will provide transportation with vans, employ a nurse twice weekly and hold a state license. Council tabled the ordinance for later action.
Tony King, co-owner of Godly Love Adult Day Center, told the council on Sept. 3 that the organization is seeking a special-use permit to open an adult day-care center at 10937 St. Charles Rock Road in the Cypress Village shopping center. The planning commission considered the request at its Aug. 11 meeting and recommended approval with conditions by a 12-0 vote. King said the proposed space is about 5,200 square feet and that the operator currently runs a center in the nearby city of Saint John. "We currently have 3 vans, and we're looking to expand and buy a couple of more transits as well," King said when asked about transportation for clients. He also said the center employs a nurse who "comes 2 times a week." Planning staff noted parking and circulation meet zoning requirements and recommended two conditions if the permit is approved: keep the parking lot free of trash and maintain ADA-compliant access to the building. King said the center will duplicate services currently provided in Saint John and expects to migrate some operations to Bridgeton. The council did not grant final approval at the meeting; the related bill (6509) was tabled for further review. Staff and the applicant said they would coordinate on transportation and state licensing requirements prior to any final council action.
