Molly McGovern, city manager, told the council the elevator in the historic Hall of Waters has experienced frequent downtimes and the modernization scope would update the mechanics and internal components to improve reliability during events and meetings.
Council members noted practical benefits, including fewer service calls and quieter operation during meetings. The resolution passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.
The contract award directs staff to finalize the agreement with MEI and proceed with project scheduling and implementation under the terms of the approved bid.
