Town and Country board adopts records-retention and ethics-code ordinances

The Town and Country Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Aug. 25 to adopt two ordinances: an amendment to records retention and an update to the city code of ethics.

The board approved Bill No. 25-33, which amends Title 1, Chapter 130 of the Town and Country Municipal Code to add section 130.09 on the keeping and retention of records; the measure passed and became Ordinance No. 4705. The board also approved Bill No. 25-34, an amendment to Title 1, Chapter 120 updating the code of ethics and conflicts-of-interest provisions; that measure passed and became Ordinance No. 4706.

City Clerk Roe read both bills aloud during the meeting and the clerk conducted roll-call votes after each second reading. For Bill 25-33, the clerk called the roll and recorded ayes from Aldermen Murphy, Steinhagen, Carter, Hughes, Kinsella, Gerber, Schwaer and Sawyer; the bill “passes unanimously and becomes ordinance number 4705,” the clerk said. For Bill 25-34 the clerk again took a roll call and recorded ayes from Kinsella, Schwaer, Sawyer, Murphy, Snaggle, Muse, Carter and Gerber; the clerk announced the bill “passes unanimously becomes ordinance number 4706.”

Board members did not request extended discussion on either measure at the meeting. Both items were carried by voice/roll-call votes; no amendments were recorded on the council floor.

The ordinances take effect according to the timelines in the municipal code; the meeting record shows both measures completed their second reading and were adopted on Aug. 25.

Minutes of the meeting will record the full roll-call results and the signed ordinances will be filed with the St. Louis County Recorder of Deeds as required.
