The Mexico City Council on Aug. 25 approved distribution of tourism-tax funding recommended by the tourism commission, including $1,250 to the Girls Night Out Relay for Life event for advertising, staff said.
Vicki Dinky presented the tourism commission’s recommendations after the commission reviewed funding applications. "The tourism commission … recommends the distribution of funds to the Girls Night Out Relay for Life team for advertising for their upcoming music event," she said, noting the event is expected in October.
Staff recommended that the council concur with the tourism commission’s recommendation and proceed with the attached resolution, which the council adopted after two readings. Council members discussed ensuring parity for similar events; staff said they aim to provide advertising funds across applicants based on commission scoring.
The approved resolution authorizes the city manager to execute agreements with the recommended organizations to distribute tourism tax funds as authorized under the tourism funding program.
