At the Jan. 14 Yellowstone County commissioners meeting, Metroparks leadership provided a facilities update that covered asset verification, warranty roof repairs, seating replacement and preparations for upcoming events.
Metroparks director Stoney summarized recent events and seasonal scheduling, then turned the floor over to Cole, the facilities lead, for technical updates. Cole said the department is completing an asset verification and disposal list, reviewing motorized equipment inventory and identifying obsolete items in storage for disposal. On roofing, Cole said “that arena roof is now 14 years old with an estimated lifespan of 20 years,” and described warranty repairs to lower overhang roofs intended to get the structure to the 20‑year mark before replacement is considered.
Cole told commissioners the department retired its old burgundy plastic chairs, kept about 500 for barn/outdoor use and has taken delivery of 1,900 new black, easy‑clean stacking chairs, with plans to add more over subsequent years to meet event needs. He also said the department had abandoned an old solar grid and associated well at the outdoor site and had filled and secured that infrastructure.
On operations, Cole and production lead Craig Peterson reported both facilities and production are fully staffed and that staff participated in a professional development academy. Cole said the outdoor arena construction is being prepped and that punch-list items from previous construction remain under review.
No formal action was required; the update was informational and commissioners asked no follow-up questions during the presentation.
