Commissioners approve claims, address misrepresented pickup purchase and large grader repair bills

Banner County commissioners moved to pay the submitted claims at the June 3 meeting after staff answered questions about missing receipts and equipment purchases.
County staff reported that a pickup ordered for the road department was misrepresented as a four-wheel-drive vehicle; the county returned the truck to the seller and removed the purchase from the claims list. Clerk Katie confirmed the pickup was pulled and not charged to county accounts.
The board also reviewed repair costs for heavy equipment. Highway staff said Nebraska Machinery Company reported a transmission failure and cited a figure of roughly $36,000 for transmission repair or replacement work; staff discussed refurbishing options and the risk that non-refurbished support components (harnesses, hoses) may fail later. Commissioners noted the county has had relatively low repair costs this year but that major equipment repairs can be substantial.
Staff additionally confirmed missing receipts on some credit-card charges (Microsoft subscription, Staples supplies and other items) and said departments would provide the required receipts following the meeting. No new policy on credit-card receipts was adopted; claims were approved by roll call.
