Fulton announces 200th Founders Day celebration, plans courthouse monument

A city official told the Fulton City Council that the city will mark its 200th anniversary with a Fulton Founders Day celebration on Friday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bridal District Playhouse and that organizers plan to include a newly placed monument in the observance.
"Fulton Founders Day celebration is gonna be on Friday, August 1," the speaker said, adding that Bruce Hackman of the local press would provide additional information to media. The speaker said a committee has worked on the event and asked councilors to join the celebration.
The speaker described a granite monument that the organizers say will be placed at the southwest corner of the county courthouse to honor the city's original landowners. "They will unveil the monument on the 31st of this month, and then we will have that be part of the event on the first as well," the speaker said. Organizers are collecting photographs from residents to assemble a collage of "faces of Fulton" to accompany the monument and event; the Callaway Chamber of Commerce will also share details.
City staff noted that several potential monument locations near city hall were rejected due to underground utilities and that the county is cooperating to pour a pad at the courthouse site. No vote or funding decision on the monument was recorded at the meeting; the announcement served as schedule and outreach information to the public and local media.
