Fulton council moves forward on unit power purchase agreement with Missouri Electric Commission

The Fulton City Council voted to place Bill 17-57, an ordinance authorizing the city to enter a unit power purchase agreement with the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission (DBA Missouri Electric Commission), on second reading at the next regularly scheduled meeting.

Councilwoman Nelson thanked Daryl Dunlap and staff for their work on the agreement and praised the utility board for rigorously reviewing the proposal. “The utility board dives so far into it and they ask every single question,” Nelson said, adding that local control of utilities is important to residents. Charles, identified in the meeting as president of the utility board, was also thanked; the transcript notes he was re-elected to that post.

City leaders described the measure as strategic for Fulton’s future power needs and commended the interdepartmental work that led to the draft agreement. The item was placed on second reading; formal adoption will occur after the second reading and any additional review required by city procedures.
