Finance report: Marshall revenues above budget to July; council sets budget-reading dates

City finance staff reported to the Marshall City Council on Aug. 5 that through July the city's revenues were at $15,263,000 (about 114% of the budgeted amount) while expenditures were reported at $14,000,833 (about 104.32% of budget). Staff said the budget is in its final stage and that the council should expect a first reading of the 2025 fiscal-year budget on Sept. 2 and a second reading and vote to pass on Sept. 16. Finance staff said they hoped to schedule a final meeting to close the fiscal year on Monday, Sept. 29, or Tuesday, Sept. 30, at noon; that meeting would consider budget amendments and final bills "so that we get as close as possible to the last day of the month," the staff member said. The report was provided during committee reports from the finance and budget committee. Council members discussed scheduling and quorum logistics for the proposed noon meeting and asked members to indicate availability so the clerk could set the date. The transcript shows the finance report presented the revenue and expenditure totals and the timeline for readings and finalization, and council members took no substantive amendments to the proposed schedule during the meeting.
