Regina Wells addressed the council during public comment to report safety concerns with Lime scooters, saying she observed “two young preteens… dodging cars” in a Walmart parking lot and that scooters were being left for days on neighborhood streets. "These are for kids' entertainment. And that's my stand as the in in the public," Wells said.
Council and staff later addressed the matter: during departmental reports, Tracy noted that Lime scooters are scheduled to be picked up in October and that the city can reconsider whether to permit scooters next year after that removal. Several councilmembers, including Ray, echoed resident concerns about youths riding the scooters in unsafe ways and questioned the public-safety benefit versus the nuisance.
No ordinance or formal council action restricting scooters was introduced at the meeting; the city’s stated timeline is to retrieve the company’s scooters in October and revisit the issue in the following permitting cycle.
