The mayor nominated Gennaro Sifuentes to fill the Ward 2 council seat, and the council voted to accept the appointment at its Aug. 26 meeting. The mayor said he would nominate Gennaro Su Fuentes and asked members to support the appointment. Councilmember Alan moved to accept the appointment; the motion was seconded and carried. Sifuentes is scheduled to be sworn in at the next council meeting in September.
The seat will be held through April 2026, the mayor said. Councilmembers offered brief remarks welcoming Sifuentes. Councilmember Derek said Sifuentes is “extremely involved in in his church and is a very upstanding ethical and more moral gentleman,” and asked colleagues to support the appointment. Several other councilmembers offered welcome comments during the meeting’s closing remarks.
The appointment fills the Ward 2 vacancy created earlier this year; the council did not take a roll-call tally on the record beyond the unanimous voice vote. No formal committee or ordinance is required for the temporary appointment, and the council set the swearing-in for the next regular session.
