Resident urges changes to political sign rules; city staff says sign code is being rewritten

"I think there are just 3 people at the front, 4 people at the front who remember the 3 years I came about payday loans being in the town. So, it's not something I'm gonna give up," Burrell said, urging the board to consider an ordinance specifically addressing political signs or clearer rules.
A city official replied that staff had checked with "Ken" and that the city is on the second draft of a code rewrite covering signs more broadly: "They're actually on their second draft of it right now. It'll actually be the whole code will be about signs... It would be any type of temporary yard stake signs." The official did not provide a date for when the item will appear on a future agenda.
Burrell said she will follow up with the school board about distribution of sign rules for school-board candidates.
No formal action was taken; the comment was recorded during public comment and staff indicated a code rewrite process is underway.
