Front Street reconstruction: water main installed; storm and road work continuing on schedule

City staff told the Board of Aldermen that the Front Street reconstruction project is progressing on schedule and that crews have installed the new water main and begun stormwater work. Martin, a city staff member reporting to the board, said the contractor has installed the new water main along Front Street from Gregg Street to Kirby and that testing of the new main is underway. He said once testing is complete crews will switch service lines and make final connections to abandon the old main. Martin also reported that JM Fahey has begun stormwater installation at Gregg Street and Front Street and had progressed toward Coppell. He said the contractor completed the asphalt overlay on Rust Road and Rust Court and has milled roads north of I-70, with work continuing south through the overlay project. Martin said the project had encountered a few minor issues but “nothing major that would cause any sort of delays or concerns.” He also said staff have been coordinating to avoid conflicts with school schedules and planned to complete relevant work before the next school week, weather permitting.
