The Board of Aldermen approved a resolution authorizing the city administrator to purchase ballistic shields and related uniform equipment for patrol officers, with funding drawn from both the capital improvements fund and a law enforcement block grant.
A city staff presentation said the item was discussed during the budget process and that the shields would give officers additional protection in the field. "Basically, it would provide ballistic shields for our our officers out in the field," a staff member said. Staff noted some of the equipment cost is covered by a law enforcement block grant while other costs come from the capital improvements fund.
The board moved, seconded and approved Resolution R25-35 by voice vote.
Staff identified Chief Turner and command staff as proponents of the equipment purchase; the resolution authorizes the administrator to complete procurement and outfit patrol officers accordingly.
