City staff report Robertson Connection sidewalk grant and Chadwick Flyer bridge progress

City Administrator Eric Johnson and Public Works Director Jeremy Parson gave updates on two separate infrastructure projects: the Robertson Connection sidewalk and the Chadwick Flyer pedestrian bridge.
Johnson told the board the Robertson Connection received a grant to install a 6-foot sidewalk along the north side of Robertson. He said bids were received and the item is scheduled to come before the board on Oct. 2 for consideration. "We received good bids for this," Johnson said, adding the sidewalk would connect to Second Avenue and provide a downtown pedestrian link.
On the Chadwick Flyer pedestrian bridge, Johnson said construction is advancing and crews have placed steel on the east and west sides of Highway 65. "Over the next 6 to 8 weeks, they will complete the work of the ramps that are gonna be in the support structure for the bridge," Johnson told aldermen.
Aldermen asked whether a protective screen will be installed on the pedestrian structure. Parson said the project will include protective railing that meets MoDOT standards but not a full enclosure; he cited similar decorative black fencing used on Republic Road and Riverside Bridges as comparable examples. "We don't have to screen it completely, but there will be railing that goes along there, and that's all MoDOT compliant," Parson said.
Johnson also noted that Missouri Main Street will hold its state conference in Springfield next year and Ozark, as the nearest Main Street community, may be highlighted with tours and workshops.
Next steps: Robertson Connection will return to the board on Oct. 2 with bid and funding details; Chadwick Flyer ramp work and steel erection are expected to continue over the coming 6–8 weeks.
