The Clayton Plan Commission on June 16 approved plans for a 3‑foot cedar fence with lattice in the western front yard of a corner property at Bland Drive and Northmoor (Northmoor) Drive.
Staff described the lot as a corner property with the primary structure facing Northmoor and noted the proposed fence would be set 1 foot behind the sidewalk edging and stained medium brown. "Front yard fences are common nearby and are often wood and are often up to 6 feet tall," staff said, and recommended approval, finding the fence aligned with neighborhood character and having minimal visual impact.
Applicant Robin Saywitz explained the house sits on a dead‑end street with only three houses adjacent to the side/backyard and said the fence location responds to an existing patio layout and nearby trees. "It's like the bottom two thirds solid, the top third, that open lattice structure, so hopefully nice and unobtrusive," Saywitz said. Commissioners observed that landscaping in the one‑foot planting strip would soften the view; staff and the applicant said planting width may vary near tree roots but would generally allow narrow plantings.
After brief comments and questions about a typographical height item in the staff packet (clarified to 3 feet) and the planting strip width, the commission moved to approve the staff recommendation and voted in favor.
The applicant said construction is targeted to be completed by the end of the summer.
