The City Council on Aug. 19 approved the purchase of a used 2018 Altec Ford F550 bucket truck to replace a 23‑year‑old unit used across multiple city departments.
Interim City Manager Andy Dorian described the current bucket truck as “23 years old and has finally stopped working.” He said staff had inspected the older unit and that repair costs were not justified. The recommended purchase price for the 02/2018 Altec Ford F550 was $82,000. The truck features a 45‑foot bucket height compared with the city’s current 34‑foot unit.
Dorian told the council the parks department will pay for the purchase, using this year’s budget where possible; if necessary, the city can use reserves and will avoid similar purchases next year to rebalance budgets. The council approved the motion to purchase; members recorded their votes in favor.
Staff noted the used truck carries a 30‑day warranty on the bucket. The vehicle will be shared across parks, streets, airport and other departments as needed.
