Council opens first reading for special use permit to expand self-storage at 715 N. Denver Ave. The Republic City Council held a first reading for an ordinance to approve a special use permit allowing Repmo First Store LLC to construct a new 9,000-square-foot self-storage building at an existing facility at 715 North Denver Avenue. Senior Planner Patrick Ruiz told council the existing storage facility (about 19,000 square feet) was built in February 2002 and did not previously require a special use permit; construction of a new storage building triggers the need for a special use permit under the city's land-use rules. Ruiz said staff considers the proposed addition "generally consistent with the city special use permit ordinance" and that the site can be served by existing transportation and municipal facilities. He also said planning and zoning had not recorded any public opposition to the request. Council treated the item as a first reading and invited members to contact staff with follow-up questions before the next meeting. No final council action was taken at this session.
