Council approves 1-year UCM art lease for City Hall; city insurance covers pieces

The Warrensburg City Council on Aug. 11 approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute an agreement with the University of Central Missouri's Division of Art and Design to lease and install seven art pieces in City Hall for an initial one-year term.
Tourism Director Marcy Barnhart, who serves as the city staff liaison to the Warrensburg Arts Commission, said the pieces were created by students, faculty and alumni. The Arts Commission's arts-and-public-places committee and the commission itself reviewed and recommended the locations and designs.
Barnhart told the council the lease carries a $100-per-artwork participation fee; the commission will pay that cost from the Warrensburg Arts Commission Public Arts Fund. She said the city's existing insurance policy covers the pieces while they are installed in City Hall, so no additional insurance cost is expected.
Barnhart said the artworks will be placed in the hallway near the stairway and elevator, and one small piece will share a north wall that currently displays Maguire project information; she said the Maguire materials will remain available in poster form.
Council voted to approve the resolution. The roll-call approval was recorded as: Osborne — yes; Latari — yes; Jones — yes; Mueller — yes.
Ending: The one-year lease is renewable by agreement; Barnhart said the arts commission and staff will coordinate installation and maintenance logistics.
