Richard Rice told the Ozark Board of Aldermen he and his wife have reported repeated streetlight outages in the Stoneridge subdivision since early July and asked the board to oversee follow-up with Liberty Utilities so repairs occur by Sept. 10.
Rice said Liberty issued work orders Aug. 13 and Aug. 14 but that parts remain pending and three of six original lights are still out. "I'm asking tonight to have this matter resolved by September 10," Rice said, excluding weekends and Labor Day. He asked the board to revise the city's outage-reporting procedure so residents do not have to appear before the board to get service.
Alderman Bruce Galloway and other members expressed support for Rice and said they had previously assisted with the complaint. Galloway told Rice, "You have my word as an alderman here representing the South Side of City of Ozark that this will continue," and said he shared concerns about the utility's procedures.
Rice said a light pole had been left in a neighbor's backyard for 10 years; Liberty had issued a work order for reinstalling that pole on Aug. 13, he said. He also offered to help identify parts and suppliers if it would speed repairs.
City staff acknowledged the ongoing issue and told Rice they would follow up administratively; Rice asked the board to oversee that follow-up and requested a date-certain completion. The board did not take a formal vote but the aldermen present expressed support for staff to monitor the utility's work orders and report back.
