Santa Fe committee postpones rink repair presentation after technical problems

The unidentified presenter described six main reasons the rink is currently out of service: deferred maintenance, budget and procurement constraints, the rink’s geography, rig-specific knowledge gaps, engineering and design issues, and staffing continuity. The presenter also outlined five major systems that support the rink: compressors, glycol pumps and motors, HVAC, cooling towers and dehumidifiers, and explained that the rink’s refrigeration uses a glycol primary loop, a water-based secondary loop, and a rooftop atmosphere-control system. The presenter said the cooling towers, dehumidifier and HVAC are located on the GCCC rooftop.
Chair Pilar Faulkner said the public had provided substantial feedback on the topic and that the committee should not keep residents “out of the loop” while technical problems prevented the slides from being shown. “That’s my recommendation: we postpone this presentation,” a committee member said during the discussion, and the committee moved and approved postponement by roll call.
The committee did not receive a full set of capacity, timeline or repair-cost estimates during the session; the presenter indicated those details were part of the briefing material but the public could not view the slides because the presentation was not appearing on the YouTube stream. The committee directed staff to re-present the item at the next Quality of Life meeting so the public can view slides and hear the full briefing.
No formal repairs or procurement actions were approved at the meeting; the item was only postponed. Staff told the committee the presenters would be prepared to return at the next scheduled committee meeting.
