Board highlights fall community events, fire open house and Citizens Police Academy

Trustees promoted upcoming community events including a fire department open house Sept. 20, the Citizens Police Academy starting Sept. 24, Vision and Vibe Fest in September, Monarch Fest on Sept. 6, Westmont Cruising Nights and Wicked West Fest in October.
Several trustees used committee reports to highlight upcoming community events and volunteer opportunities.
Trustee Guzzo announced the Fire Department Open House set for Saturday, Sept. 20, at Johanek Fire Station, 6015 S. Cass Ave., with educational activities and free refreshments. Trustee Plowman promoted the Citizens Police Academy, an eight-week program for residents and workers in Westmont that starts Sept. 24, is free of charge, and requires participants to be 18 or older.
Trustee Barker and others highlighted Vision and Vibe Fest in September with more than 25 participating artists, plus music, theater, dance and food trucks. Trustee Little noted Westmont Cruising Nights continue on Thursday evenings on Cass Avenue through the month, and also mentioned Wicked West Fest events planned for October. Trustee Barker said the Environmental Improvement Committee will participate in a Monarch Fest on Sept. 6 at Ty Warner Park.
Trustees encouraged residents to check the village and library websites for schedules and registration information for these community programs.
