Tinley Park finance committee reviews new budget reports and system features

At a Village of Tinley Park Finance Committee meeting, trustees reviewed new budget-to-actual financial reports and a new backend system staff say will allow monthly reporting and real-time visibility into department budgets. The committee also approved the minutes from its June 17, 2025 finance committee meeting.
The reports under review included a year-to-date revenues-and-expenditures statement and a separate list of accounts that are over budget. "Everything is generally on par," said Hannah, finance staff, summarizing the year-to-date report and noting some accounts appear over budget because fiscal-year transfers have not yet been processed. The committee was told those items do not currently put any fund at risk.
Committee members praised the implementation of the new financial system. "That was a huge step forward, and the reporting that we can now get out of it is a big plus," said Trustee Schaub, who described automated invoice-status visibility as a key benefit. Staff said the system shows the status of an invoice and where it falls within a department's budget without manual lookups.
Hannah said the village will continue to provide the two standard reports while working toward a recurring monthly report for the committee and department heads. The new reporting, trustees said, will allow earlier identification of items that may require budget adjustments and will give department heads more control over their operations.
Trustees urged the public to review the reports and said transparency is a priority. "I am a firm believer in public awareness," Trustee Schaub said, adding that the village brings these reports forward so taxpayers can see how funds are spent. No formal policy changes or budget amendments were voted on during the discussion; the committee asked staff to continue refining monthly reporting and return with status updates at a future meeting.
The committee approved the minutes for the June 17, 2025 finance committee meeting by roll call vote.
