Mobile Library Branch to Start Sept. 8; Lincoln Library Releases 2024 Annual Report

Library officials told the Springfield City Council on Sept. 2 that the new mobile branch will begin service Sept. 8 and will stop in all 10 wards. "They're going to start September 8, they've got the schedule set for 2 weeks," Dr. Harrison, the library director, said, adding that the schedule will appear on the library’s website calendar and that staff can pivot stops if a location is not drawing visitors.
Dr. Harrison also presented the Lincoln Library’s 2024 annual report to the council and noted the report is required by Illinois statute. "We are required by Illinois statute to do this annually, so we got it done," she said. The library director said the city will schedule a grand-opening event for the mobile branch and will announce details to the council.
Alderwoman Conley noted that September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month and asked whether patrons can receive cards and amnesty services on the mobile branch. Dr. Harrison confirmed library cards can be issued on the mobile branch and said the library is offering amnesty for fines under $50. The city did not take formal action; the presentation and schedule were informational.
