Oak Lawn trustees approve firefighter hires, promotions and police radios; table IT lease and managed-print proposals

The board approved the following measures by unanimous roll-call votes: waiving $730.68 in village fees for the Oak Lawn Raiders winter picnic; directing the Fire and Police Commission to promote one lieutenant and one sergeant from the current eligibility list to address retirements in the Oak Lawn Police Department; and waiving competitive bidding to purchase 10 Motorola APX N70 radios for a total price not to exceed $93,058.69.
On a separately considered item the board approved directing the Fire and Police Commission to hire two additional firefighter/paramedics from the new eligibility list to fill immediate vacancies caused by illnesses, long-term injuries and other leaves. The village president explained the hires are intended to address a current manpower shortage and said the chief would not request permanent additional positions when regular staff return or future retirements occur.
Two items that had been on the consent agenda were removed and later tabled: an engagement with Baker Tilly to audit the village's financial statements for the year ending Feb. 2024, and a resolution rejecting all bids for managed-print solutions. A previously introduced settlement and new lease with Proven Business Systems LLC (Proven IT) in the amount of $99,510.12 was also tabled; trustees said the agreement was not ready for final action.
