Trustees voted 6-0 to adopt the proclamation, moved by Marisak and seconded by Brzoska. The proclamation—issued on behalf of Village President Matthew Brawley—cites ABATE of Illinois Inc.’s safety and education programs, and the presentation was accepted by two representatives identified as Linda Olsen and Patty Smith.
Linda Olsen, an ABATE of Illinois representative, told trustees, “Motorcycle awareness is May, but I feel it should be every month. We're out there.” She urged drivers to be mindful of motorcycles and said the organization conducts safety and education programs to reach high-school drivers and the broader public. Olsen said she and others had noticed an increase in fatalities: “Last year we lost 40 some members in the state of Illinois alone.”
Trustees photographed the proclamation recipients following the vote. The board did not take further action on the proclamation beyond adoption and public recognition.
